Monday Night Movies at The Jewish Center of the Hamptons

The Jewish Center of the Hamptons presents:
Night and Fog
The history of Nazi Germany’s death camps of the Final Solution and the hellish world of dehumanization and death contained inside. This no holds barred documentary is perhaps the first film to present the holocaust to cinema audiences. It is difficult to watch; but it must be watched. The director, Alain Resnais, is better known for his fiction films (Hiroshima Mon Amour 1959, Last Year at Marienbad 1961) and the writer, Jean Cayrol, was a survivor of the camps. The director was nominated for a BAFTA in 1961. Running time 32 minutes.

We will also screen a second short documentary:
One Survivor Remembers
The harrowing story of Gerda Weissmann Klein and her journey of survival and remembering both before and after the war. Her story may sound familiar at first, but it transcends the genre, and becomes almost poetic through the eloquence of Ms. Klein. We have paired this film with Night and Fog with the hope that our audience will get through the devastation of the N&F, and emerge with renewed hope and appreciation for the spirit of survival that is so foundational to the Jewish people. The film won the Academy Award for best documentary short in 1996. It is a presentation of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and HBO. Running time 39 minutes.
All Monday Night Movies at JCOH will be introduced by Alec Hirschfeld.
Couvert: $5.00
