Officials Announce Plan To Build Roundabout
State and village officials announced yesterday that $700,000 in state aid has been secured for the project.

Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. and Senator Kenneth P. LaValle along with East Hampton Town Supervisor, Larry Cantwell; East Hampton Village Mayor, Paul Rickenbach; and East Hampton Village Superintendent of Public Works, Scott Fithian announced yesterday their plan to fund and construct a roundabout at the five corner intersection of State Road 114 and Toilsome Lane.
The officials announced that they secured $700,000 in state aid for the Village’s first roundabout, to be complete sometime in 2015, 27east reports.
The money for the construction was funded through Thiele and LaValle’s 2014 Community Capital Assistance Program and a matching contribution from the Village, according to 27east.

“This is one of those rare occasions where all levels of government have worked together,” Mayor Rickenbach told 27east. “We’re hoping it will be complete within the next year.”
According to 27east, the officials have been trying to come up with a “traffic calming measure” for the area for years. Many members of the community consider the intersection to be dangerous and in need of a change, 27east reports.

“As you can see, this is an interesting intersection,” Senator LaValle said at the press conference on Monday as he pointed to the stop sign on the intersection, according to 27east.
