• East Hampton demands closure of battery storage plants (newsday.com) — East Hampton Town officials are pushing to shut down two local battery-energy storage plants, including the Cove Hollow Road facility, by Friday until safer fire suppression systems and environmental cleanups are in place. Citing PFAS contamination and unanswered questions about a 2023 fire, Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez is demanding soil removal, groundwater testing, and engineering proof that any new system will adequately protect nearby residents.

• Former Building Department Employee Pleads Guilty to Taking Bribes (easthamptonstar.com) — An East Hampton Town Building Department employee has pleaded guilty to 10 counts of bribery and official misconduct in a scheme to speed up permits for paying contractors, avoiding jail in favor of community service, probation, and a hefty fine. Town officials say her actions damaged public trust and worsened the department's backlog, but emphasize that current staff are working to fix inherited problems.
