Police: Bridgehampton Preschool Employee Stole Over $35,000 From School's Bank Account

The woman turned herself into police on Tuesday.

A former bookkeeper at a nonprofit Bridgehampton preschool was arrested on Tuesday for stealing over $35,000 from the school, according to Southampton Town Police.

The Detective Division conducted an investigation over several months and determined that 30-year-old Lauren Comber, of Sag Harbor, removed funds from a bank account belonging to The Rainbow Preschool from November 2012 through January 2014, according to police.

Comber turned herself into police Tuesday morning and was arraigned on a third degree grand larceny charge at Suffolk County Court in Riverhead, police said.

The Rainbow Preschool was founded by teacher Sue Daniels in 2004. It was located in the Sag Harbor Methodist Church in Sag Harbor until the church was sold in 2009. The school then relocated to its current home at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House at 977 Sag Harbor Bridgehampton Turnpike.
