Repaving Project In Amagansett Shopping District To Take Place During Evening Hours

Local officials reached out to the Regional Director after businesses owners complained the project would hurt their business.

The repaving project along the 1,500 square foot section of Montauk Highway in the Amagansett shopping area will now take place during the evening hours after several business owners complained the construction would hurt their business.

A few weeks ago, the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) announced a possible change that would call for the area to be repaved during off-peak day hours instead of night hours, as originally planned.

After New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. and East Hampton Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell were contacted by Amagansett business owners fearing that daytime off peak paving would hurt their businesses, they reached out to the Regional Director.

They believed that the business owners and patrons should be given the same opportunity that was afforded to the business owners and patrons in the downtown Water Mill and Bridgehampton shopping areas during the repaving of Montauk Highway in Southampton earlier this year, according to a press release from Assemblyman Thiele’s office.
