Over 60 students are spending their summer participating in several different workshop.

Over 60 Sag Harbor students are spending their summer mornings honing in on their artistic skills through a new summer art program offered by the Sag Harbor School District.

Through the five-week program, held at Pierson High School, the students in grades 3 through 12 participated in several workshops, including topics related to drawing, stop motion animation, performance art, aerial architecture, printmaking, mixed-media and 2D design.

The free workshops are taught by both faculty members and visiting artists, including Scott Sandell, Andrea Cote, Michael DiCanio, as well as Laura Bellmont and Emily Brink from the Good School.

The program is fully funded by the 15-year-old Donald Reutershan Education Trust, which was established to support an arts curriculum that focuses on American art and architecture.

“This program offers our students a unique opportunity that is not available in many other schools,” Sag Harbor art teacher Peter Solow said. “Our older students are gaining college-level art experience and our younger students are being introduced to a variety of mediums.”
