A creative fall art project helped reinforce Spanish language skills for a class of Sag Harbor Elementary School first-graders.

As part of their Spanish lesson on words describing emotions, the students cut out and colored paper pumpkins with faces, showing a variety of emotions.

Students were then instructed to recite the Spanish word for each emotion depicted.

The lesson is just one example of how Sag Harbor Elementary School often couples language arts with creative arts to help strengthen learning.

The instructional practice has been in place for several years, with all students participating in an art/Spanish lesson weekly.
