Sag Harbor Woman Facing Felony DWI Charges: Police

She was found stopped on the side of the road with the engine running, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A Sag Harbor woman is facing a felony driving while intoxicated charge after she was found in the driver's seat of a vehicle that was stopped at the side of the road with the engine running, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Melissa D. Scarlato, 32, was arrested on April 9 on Montauk Highway in Amagansett and charged with operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent or more alcohol, prior conviction designated offense within 10 years, a felony, and driving while intoxicated, previous conviction of designated offense within 10 years, a felony, police said.

Scarlato was seen in the driver's seat of a 2014 Ford SUV, stopped on the side of the road on Montauk Highway near the intersection of Devon Road, with the engine running, police said.

Upon investigation, she was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, slurred speech, and bloodshot, glassy eyes, police said. She was unsteady on her feet and performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests, police said.
