Springs Resident Hopes to Run For Suffolk County Legislature

Amos Goodman, a corporate finance and public policy professional from Springs, recently announced he hopes to run for Suffolk County Legislature’s 2nd District seat, according to multiple reports.
Goodman, 31, would be the first openly gay Republican candidate to run for county legislature on Long Island, according to The East Hampton Star.

If elected, he would only be one of two openly gay members in the legislature’s history, after Jon Cooper, a Democrat from Lloyd Harbor was the first openly gay Suffolk County lawmaker from 2000 to 2012, according to Newsday.
All of East Hampton, Southampton, and Shelter Island, and part of Brookhaven are included in the 2nd District.

The seat will be open at the end of the year by Jay Schneiderman, of Montauk, who will reach his term limits after occupying the seat for 12 years, according to 27east.
While Goodman was born in New York City, his family first settled in Springs in the 1950s and has remained ever since, according to his profile on Forward Long Island.
He full-time in Springs and is involved in many local political and civic activities across Long Island.
Goodman has always been drawn to public service and has worked as a corporate and political strategist, finance professional, and defense analyst.
In 2013, he started the company, Forward Long Island, which works to develop and advance next-generation policies and candidates for the East End of Long Island and beyond.
His work has resulted in billions of dollars in revenue and thousands of jobs saved on Long Island alone, according to his profile.
Goodman is an avid hunter, sportsman and motorcyclist, and a member of the Maidstone Gun Club in East Hampton, as well as other civic and fraternal groups.
He holds a graduate degree from Georgetown University and completed his undergraduate studies in Political Science at the University of Chicago.
He is currently a member of International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the National Rifle Association (NRA), and the Human Rights Campaign.
