EAST HAMPTON, NY β€” East Hampton Town Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez declared a townwide State of Emergency Saturday night in response to a severe winter storm bringing heavy snowfall, high winds, and extreme cold, with hazardous roadway conditions expected.

The East Hampton Recycling Center, the Montauk Recycling Center and Montauk Playhouse are Closed Sunday, town officials said.

The declaration followed advisories and warnings from the National Weather Service and was made in consultation with the town attorney’s office, police department, and highway department. Forecasts indicate the storm will continue to threaten public safety, including near-blizzard conditions, sustained winds, and significant snow accumulation that may impede travel and emergency response.
