When Poetry And Art Collide: Students Breathe In Culture
Students were inspired by a trip to the LongHouse Reserve.

SAG HARBOR, NY — Even the youngest students can learn to embrace the rich art and culture flourishing on the East End.
As part of a unit of study on poetry, Sag Harbor Elementary School fourth-graders in Libby Lattanzio’s class used photographs they took while visiting the LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton as their inspiration.
Each student crafted a poem to go along with a favorite photo they'd taken during their visit. The students’ photos were taken under the direction of photographer Clarence Sheppard, who trained the students in photography techniques as part of the school’s annual visiting artist series. The students’ photography will be featured as part of a fourth-grade photography art exhibit at the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor that's on view through June 28, the district said.
