Woman Leads Cop On Chase After Intentionally Slamming Into Automatic Gate: Police

The East Hampton woman was speeding at 70 mph in a 30 mph zone while trying to evade authorities, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton woman was arrested after she intentionally struck an automatic gate and then led police on a chase, authorities said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Karen J. Dixon-German, 51, was arrested on July 17 at 11:53 a.m. on Springs Fireplace Road and charged with third degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and third degree criminal mischief, damaging another person's property in an amount greater than $250, a felony.

Dixon-German, on July 17 at 7:12 a.m., while on Deforest Road in Montauk, she "intentionally struck the automatic gate" with her 2006 Subaru, causing an estimated $300 in damage, police said.

Next, at 11:53 a.m., she was driving the red Subaru on Springs Fireplace Road near Old Stone Highway, when she wrongfully fled a clearly marked police vehicle that had its emergency overhead lights and emergency siren activated, police said.

In a continuing effort to flee the pursuing police officer, and in an effort to avoid lawful arrest, she drove in a reckless manner, driving at a rate of 70 miles per hour in a duly posted 30 mile per hour zone while attempting to evade police, refusing to stop for a marked police vehicle with lights and sirens activated, police said.

She was released on her own recognizance, police said.
