#75- Be a Little Crafty in East Meadow
The East Meadow Library offers frequent craft programs throughout the summer.

If it's been awhile since you or your children engaged in some crafts, get back into the spirit to provide yourselves with artistic stimulation, relaxation and new skills with a wide range of classes offered at the .
On Aug. 10 from 3-5 p.m., have sixth through 12th graders stop by the young adult room for the drop-in crafts program. Spend some time with your littlest one on July 21 from 2-4 p.m. at the same type of program for children ages 3-5.
Registration is not necessary for the drop in programs. Youngsters from three years to the "not yet in Kindergarten" age are also invited to a session with Shirley Ruby on Aug. 11 at 10 a.m.

The children will be making a sleepy time pillow. All children must have been been before or in August 2008, and siblings are not permitted to come to this program. Registration begins on July 28, and the cost is $2.
Another youth adult program, "Around the World Crafts" is coming as well. On July 26, Recycled Magazine Bags; August 2: Carnival Masks and Duct Tape Wallets and Aug. 9: Asian Fans and Bookmarks. There is a $1 materials fee for each program.

On August 4 from 7-8 p.m., the same age group is invited to learn how to draw cartoons, comic book characters or story characters in the downstairs meeting room. These skills come in handy for entertainment purposes, but also for future classroom projects such as political cartoon drawing. Register your child for this program early, as there is space for only 20 individuals.
Structured craft programs for younger children are available at the library as well. On July 25 at 4:15 p.m., Shirley Ruby will be leading second through fifth graders in the construction of a global peace backpack.
Youngsters will learn how to put their crafting hands to work, but also about the importance of establishing peace amongst nations. History, culture and art are all tied into one. What more could a parent ask for? A $2 material fee is required for this session.
