Westbury School District Hosts My Brother’s Keeper Induction Ceremony

Nassau County Citation Names Date Westbury My Brother’s Keeper Day

The Westbury School District celebrates its My Brother’s Keeper inductees and showcases the Nassau County citation recognizing Westbury My Brother’s Keeper Day.

WESTBURY, NEW YORK—The Westbury School District recently hosted its annual My Brother’s Keeper induction ceremony, recognizing and celebrating young men of color who have demonstrated academic excellence and a strong commitment to serving their communities. In addition, a citation from Nassau County was given, recognizing the date as Westbury My Brother’s Keeper Day.

“This exciting evening highlighted the achievements, leadership, and promise of our inductees,” said Dr. Tahira A. DuPree Chase, superintendent of the Westbury School District. “This reinforces the program’s mission to empower young men of color to succeed academically and contribute meaningfully to their communities.”

The ceremony featured a moving keynote address by the Honorable Michael Blake, a former New York State assemblyman and former member of President Barack Obama’s administration. Mr. Blake played a pivotal role in advancing the My Brother’s Keeper initiative across New York State.

District leaders and educators, Nassau County Human Rights Commissioner Rodney McRae, and Dr. Kendall Richards, the president of the Long Island Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., were in attendance to honor the My Brother’s Keeper scholars. In addition to the outstanding scholars who officially joined the ranks of My Brother’s Keeper, Westbury High School principal David Zimbler was inducted.
