Bowling Green Students Participate in "Valentines for Veterans" Program

Students in Rhonda Cohen’s first grade class at Bowling Green Elementary School were honored for their participation in the "Valentines for Veterans" program by Town of Hempstead Councilman Gary Hudes and U.S. Marine veteran Andy Booth. The program, which began in 2001, lets local students create Valentine's Day cards that are sent to the VA Hospital in Northport. The cards show the children's appreciation for the veterans' service.

Councilman Hudes awarded the children with an official certificate of recognition, according to a town press release. Booth explained what a veteran is and why they are important to the country.

“The Valentines for Veterans Program that I have had the pleasure and honor of being part of for these last 10 years has truly made a difference in the lives of our veterans who have bravely and selflessly served our country," said Councilman Hudes in the town's press release.
