Backpack Giveaways for Kids Set for Saturday in Westbury
The event is co-hosted by Nassau police and town and county officials.

The first day of school means new beginnings, but the cost of purchasing an abundance of school supplies – especially for families with more than one child – and can feel downright burdensome.
Saturday’s backpack giveaway is designed to help. Nassau police and town and county officials plan to distribute more than 1,000 backpacks, filled with school supplies, on Saturday from 12-3 p.m. in Martin “Bunky” Reid Park, at Broadway and Railroad Streets in Westbury.

The program, ”The Road to Success” Backpack Giveaway, is co-hosted Leg. Siela Bynoe, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Councilwoman Viviana Russell in partnership with the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association Superior Officers Association and the Nassau County Detectives Association.

The program is for children ages five to 15. Students must be accompanied by an adult to receive a backpack. If there is rain, the event will be held instead at the ‘Yes We Can’ Community Center in Westbury.
