Business Q&A: Entenmann’s Family Bakery

has been a family tradition for three generations. Donna Normandia is co-owner with her sister, Debbie, who is the head baker. Together, they have been deeply invested in the business from a young age.

Patch had a chance to chat with Normandia about the business, her background and some baking tips:

Tell us how Entenmann’s got started. 

Entenmann's Bakery got started first by my grandfather. He opened up a bakery in St. Albans, Queens in 1935.  My father learned his trade there and eventually opened up his own bakery in Mineola.  Finally, he decided to open another shop in East Meadow, where we are located now. Entenmann's Bakery in East Meadow is a third generation bakery.  We have the experience that makes our products stand out from other bakeries. 

How did you get into this business?

I got into the business through my family. Both my father and my sister are bakers. My mother and I have always been on the customer service side of the bakery and taken care of everything besides the baking aspect.  We have been in this same location for 35 years.  I literally grew up in our East Meadow bakery! 

What makes East Meadow a great place to own a business?

East Meadow is a great place to own a business because I grew up in East Meadow and even graduated from East Meadow High School, along with my sister.  We have a loyal clientele and love our location and customers! 

What special services does Entenmann’s offer?

The special services we offer would be good old-fashioned baked goods.  I hear from so many of our customers that they cannot find products like we sell anywhere.  Everything we sell is baked from scratch and the freshest, quality ingredients are used.

What is your most popular dessert?

Our most popular dessert would be our 4" cheesecakes.  They come in a variety of flavors such as Snickers, Oreo, Key lime and red velvet to name a few.  They are perfect for customers looking for individual size, quality desserts.

Our customers keep coming back because we offer superior products and outstanding customer service. 

What is your favorite part about owning Entenmann’s?

My favorite part about owning Entenmann's Family Bakery is working with my sister.  We make great partners and we learned from the best.

If you could offer one baking tip to the readers, what would it be?

If I could offer one baking tip, it would be to use high-quality ingredients when baking at home.  You will definitely taste the difference.
