Cops: East Meadow Man Charged in Hit-and-Run That Hospitalized 2 Homeless People
Two people in serious condition after 80-year-old driver struck them on Hempstead Turnpike Sunday, police said.

An East Meadow man faces charges after Nassau County Police said he struck two homeless people with his car and drove away.
Police said Oliver Blakeman, 80, was driving west on Hempstead Turnpike near East Meadow Avenue when he struck a man and a woman as they crossed toward Eisenhower Park.

Blakeman drove away but was located at Merrick Avenue and Webster Street where police placed him under arrest, detectives said.
The incident happened at 7:06 p.m. Sunday, cops said.

The two victims, both homeless, were brought to a nearby hospital with multiple trauma injuries and are currently listed in serious condition, police said.
The 2005 Dodge Caravan Blakeman was driving was impounded for brake and safety checks.
Blakeman was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury. He was released on an appearance ticket and is due back in court Tuesday.
