East Meadow's Chris Young Spreads Comedy On LI
The East Meadow native brings laughs from Long Island to NYC.
Doing something you like and finding a way to make a career out of it is something that is always suggested to people once they enter the real world. For East Meadow native Chris Young, one thing he was good at was making people laugh. With the encouragement of his friends, he has become one of the up-and-coming comedians on Long Island.
“I’ve always enjoyed making people laugh so I figured it was a natural fit, it’s worked pretty well so far,” Young said.
Chris can be seen doing shows in comedy clubs all over Long Island and New York City, including the famous Caroline's on Broadway.

“The place is the mecca of comedy in NYC so it was cool to grace the stage with a lot of up and coming acts that are highly touted in the industry,” he said.
His humor has some dark parts to it but his material can get a good laugh out of most people with jokes about himself, current events and even growing up in East Meadow. In his act he blames his mother for putting the Carvel ice cream store that was next door to his house out of business after she grounded him for a month.

While Young enjoys going out on the stage doing what he loves as much as possible, he admits that it can be a big challenge to not let his jokes become stale and keep the audience interested and coming back.
“Some of the older bits I’ve been doing lose luster because I have done them so many times and it’s hard to keep the character in the bits, its kind of pushes me just to write new stuff all the time so I have notebooks of material that I haven’t even used yet," he said. "You want to be good and have a great set so picking out your best jokes for a big show is also a stresser. Keeping the confidence while on stage is difficult as well; if I’m at a show and one of the jokes doesn’t work it’s a pain to get them back on your side to laugh with you.”
Doing stand-up is just the beginning for Chris Young, who has bigger dreams of acting or hosting his own game show one day. His next step includes playing a club owner in an upcoming movie appropriately called “The Comedian.”
Young will be performing next on Jan. 15 at the Eastville Comedy Club in New York City and on Jan. 19 at the Brokerage Comedy Club on Long Island.
