Garden City Hotel Prepares Gourmet Pre-Thanksgiving Meal to Thank Long Island Heroes for Their Efforts and Bravery

U.S. Marines and Hyperbaric Technician of Winthrop University Hospital Honored

Grady Colin, the General Manager of The Garden City Hotel, welcomed U.S. Marines and local Long Island heroes to a pre-Thanksgiving luncheon honoring those whose acts of bravery have made a difference in the lives of their fellow Long Islanders and our nation.

Among the Marines honored were: Staff Sargent John Grigg, who is stationed in Farmingdale, and Lance Corporal Dominic Musorofiti and Corporal Andrew Cunha, who are stationed in Garden City.

Also honored was Jeffrey Brenner, a Hyperbaric Technician at Winthrop-University Hospital who is also a member of Huntington Community First Aid Squad. Brenner saved the life of a theatregoer who had gone into cardiac arrest at the Engeman Theater in Northport.

Gail Melamed, an emergency department nurse at Winthrop-University Hospital, and her husband Joel, an Assistant Chief with the Albertson Herricks Fire Department, were on their boat on the Great South Bay when they responded to a “May Day” call and helped save the life of a jet skier who had collided with another boat.

The six heroes dined on a gourmet luncheon prepared by Garden City Hotel Executive Chef, Michael Mandato who says, “Thanksgiving is a perfect opportunity to thank our Marines and neighbors whose heroic efforts have made a difference in the lives of so many Long Islanders.”

Chef Mandato prepared a gourmet meal featuring his famed Citrus Rosemary Rubbed Turkey, roasted Brussels Sprouts with smoked bacon and maple butter and a mushroom chestnut stuffing.
