Levittown Man Charged With Manslaughter in Crash That Kills Passenger

A Levittown man is charged with manslaughter after authorities say he was drunk at the wheel during a crash early Tuesday that killed his passenger, according to New York State Police.

Cops said Brian Friedrichs, 22, was driving west on the Northern State Parkway near Post Avenue when he lost control of the car at about 4 a.m. The gray Mazda flipped several times and ejected Friedrichs and his passenger, Christopher Gallina, 23, also of Levittown, cops said.

Gallina was rushed to Winthrop University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, cops said.

Police: Drunk Driver Fatally Strikes Friend Who Left Car

A Stony Brook woman was killed early Saturday morning and her friend is charged with DWI in connection with her death, police said.

The incident occurred at about 4:11 a.m. on the westbound side of Nesconset Highway, west of Old Town Road, in Setauket.

Police say Krystal Berkowitz, 21, and Lawrence Pagano, 23, had been inside Pagano’s Jeep Liberty in a nearby parking lot prior to the crash. Berkowitz left the Jeep and began to walk westbound on Nesconset Highway toward her residence because she was concerned that Pagano was intoxicated, police said.

Cops: Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Injured in Huntington Station

A shooting left one man dead and another injured in Huntington Station Wednesday night, authorities said.

Suffolk County Police say they responded to a 911 call that a man fired a number of shots at a group of people who were gathered outside of a Huntington Station home on 84 East 9th Street at approximately 9:35 p.m.

According to detectives, Daniel Carbajal, 25, of Huntington Station was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Anthony Napolitano, 21, of Huntington Station, was taken via Huntington Community Ambulance to Huntington Hospital with a non-life threatening injury to his leg.

Cops: Duo Robbed Man Outside Five Towns Home

Nassau County Police are searching for two men they say held up a Five Towns man and hit him over the head when he couldn’t open a safe.

Cops said the 20-year-old man returned to his Woodmere home on Neptune Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. As he got out of his car, two unknown men approached him and demanded cash, cops said. They then took the victim’s cellphone and car keys before ordering him to let them into his house, police said.

Police: Pair Charged in Several Blue Point Residential Burglaries

Two Blue Point men were arrested on Thursday in connection with several recent home burglaries in the area, police said.

A resident of Oakwood Drive in Blue Point called 911 on Thursday at about 2:10 p.m. after discovering their home had been burglarized, police said.

Fifth Squad Special Operations Team detectives, who were conducting directed patrol due recent burglaries in the area, received a description of the suspects provided by witnesses, police said.

The detectives were able to locate and arrest two men at their home a short time later, police said.

Police: Homeless Man Arrested For Stealing From House of Worship

A homeless man was arrested on Tuesday for stealing from a synagogue in Coram earlier this month, police said.

On July 7, Christopher Loeb, 31, entered the Chabad House of Coram, located at 87 Mt. Sinai Coram Road, and stole coins, police said.

The incident was recorded on surveillance and Loeb was recognized and identified by patrol officer Greg Hasemann, who searched for the suspect during his daily patrols, police said.

Police: Rocky Point Man Charged in Rash of Local Home Burglaries

A 23-year-old Rocky Point man was arrested last Sunday and charged with more than a half dozen home burglaries in Rocky Point over the last two months, police said.

Michael Caruso was arrested after he tried to break into a home on Hickory Road on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Caruso is charged with seven counts of second degree burglary, as well as one count of attempted burglary.

Police: Rocky Point Man Robbed Two Banks, Arrested in Movie Theater Parking Lot

A Rocky Point man who police say robbed two banks in three days was arrested shortly after the last robbery on Monday afternoon in a movie theater parking lot.

According to police, Robert Edlund, 55, entered Suffolk County National Bank, located at 2801 Route 112 in Medford, at about 2 p.m. Monday and approached a teller with a note demanding cash. The teller complied with the Edlund’s demands and Edlund fled the scene with cash, police said.

Sixth Precinct police officers, Highway Patrol officers and officers from Canine and Aviation Sections searched for the suspect, who was located a short time later, hiding under a tractor trailer parked in the parking lot of the Island 16 Cinema in Holtsville, police said.

DA: Former Wantagh Man Pleads Guilty to Scamming Homeowners

A former Wantagh resident pleaded guilty and will repay money he stole from them in a repair scam, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.

Charles Ganzenmuller, 38, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree scheming to defraud and operating a home improvement business without a license before Judge Scott Fairgrave, said the DA.

As part of his plea, Ganzenmuller was ordered to make a full restitution of $15,200 to his victims by Oct. 10, when he will be sentenced to a conditional discharge, said the DA.

Cops: Man in Military Hat Robs Bank

Nassau County Police released surveillance footage of a man they say held up a Baldwin bank Wednesday morning.

Cops said the man entered Bank of America on Atlantic Avenue, approached a teller, and handed over a note demanding money at 11:15 a.m. The teller cooperated and gave the robber an unknown amount of cash, cops said. He reportedly fled east on Atlantic Avenue.

Three employees and three customers were in the bank at the time of the holdup, cops said. No one was injured.
