Officers Use Stun Gun On Man After Threat With Knife: Police

UNIONDALE, NY — A Uniondale man was arrested Wednesday evening after police say he threatened officers with a knife and refused to listen to their orders, at which point they used a stun gun to subdue him.

According to police, officers received a call for a disturbance at A&E Deli Salvadoreno, at 604 Jerusalem Ave., at 7:55 p.m. When the officers arrived, they were told that the man had fled on foot south on Amsterdam Avenue.

Police say they found Selvin Hernandez-Lopez, 18, of Amsterdam Avenue, in the driveway of a home on the street, in an argument with two men. Police say Hernandez-Lopez was holding a large knife, which prompted officers to draw their guns. The officers told him several times to drop the knife, but Hernandez-Lopez did not, and instead turned toward the officers in a threatening manner, police said. One of the officers then used their stun gun to subdue Hernandez-Lopez and place him under arrest, police said.

Hernandez-Lopez was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

He is charged with two counts of second-degree menacing, two counts of menacing a police officer and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned on Thursday and released with a temporary order of protection issued.
