See the Work Going on at Nassau Coliseum
Exterior work is entering a new phase. See a preview of what the whole building will look like here.
Work renovating Nassau Coliseum has entered a new phase, with workers now affixing new panels to the exterior.
The panels, known as megapanels, are large metal skeletons covered with aluminum fins. The aluminum creates a wave pattern that will wrap around the entire Coliseum. There will be 32 panels in all, and no two panels are the same.
Each panel is 40 feet wide and 55 feet tall, and is mounted on the now-black exterior. Each aluminum fin has to be mounted to the frame -- 4,600 in total. Below, new windows will be put in around the entire ground level.

“It’s going great,” said Project Manager Rebecca D’Eloia. “We’re excited to see the facade panels.”
The panels are just part of the multi-million-dollar renovations that are going on. Inside, there are new walls, flooring, plumbing and more. The entire interior was gutted and is being redone.

Work on the interior and exterior will continue through the winter. Billy Joel is opening up the Coliseum with a concert on April 5, and the building will be ready by then.
