Tom Schreiber Named Lacrosse Player of the Week

The Princeton phenom is a resident of East Meadow.

Tom Schreiber, a resident of East Meadow and last year's Ivy League Rookie of the Year, was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after a strong showing against Hofstra University in a recent lacrosse showdown, according to IvyLeagueSports.com.

Schreiber, a sophomore at Princeton University, had three goals and four assists in Princeton's 12-6 win over the Pride.

When Hofstra cut a 6-2 deficit to a one-goal game at 6-5, Schreiber took over and scored two goals and added two of his assists to lead the Tigers' offense when they needed it most.

A three-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week last season, this is Schreiber's first career Ivy League Player of the Week honor.

His father, Doug, began teaching Tom when he was in the first grade, playing in the backyard. In the third grade, Tom joined a local youth league. That little kid, who attended and , grew into one of the nation's premier high school players at Saint Anthony's. Now he is a college standout.

"He’s a prime-time player. . . He's given us a burst of energy," said Princeton coach Chris Bates last season. "Works hard. Makes other guys better. Good vision. Shares the ball well. He’s humble. Given all the hype, he’s backed it up with a great work ethic. His teammates appreciate the way he goes about his business. He prepares every day. He wants to play, and he wants to win.”
