View Finder: Artists Display Work at EMPL

The event featured guest speaker Evelyn Silver and her colleague Naomi Sanderson, who are docents at the Nassau County Museum of Art.

“I have always had a great interest in art and have been doing this for 54 years,” Silver said. Their discussion focused on “Children Having Fun as seen by Major Artists.” They represent part of an outreach program, which engages and brings art into community centers, libraries and various other organizations.

Twenty-five major artists were represented in their intriguing presentation and discussion, ranging from impressionists, Renoir, Mary Cassatt, John Singer Seargent, as well as Matisse, Van Gogh and the Cubism of Picasso.

The focus remained on the various depictions of children at play, running, swimming, fishing, riding horses and other leisurely activities.

The second lecture hall displayed an exhibit of the “Annual Community Juried Art Show for East Meadow Artists”. The show consisted of 62 unique pieces of art done in acrylics, watercolor, pastel and mixed media.

The First Place winners are as follows:

  • #10 Marilyn Zucher, “Fruit Stand”, acrylic.
  • #40 Mary Herman, “Nature”, watercolor.
  • #3 Ralph Capozzi,”Nature’s Bounty”, mixed media.
  • The Best in Show” award went to #27 Evelyn Neber, “Lisl”, watercolor.
