1,400 Students Graduate From Farmingdale State College

Congratulations to the Class of 2017!

FARMINGDALE, NY - Around 1,400 students graduated from Farmingdale State College during the Spring Commencement ceremony held this past weekend.

On Saturday, nearly 1,200 students received a bachelor's degree and about 200 received an associate degree.

Port Jefferson Station resident and Sports Management student Brian Muff was named the 2017 valedictorian.

During the graduation ceremony, Honorary Doctor of Science recipient and CEO of Henry Schein, Inc., Stanley M. Bergman, who was recognized as CEO of the Year, gave remarks at the morning ceremony.

Former NASA astronaut and author Leland D. Melvin, who was also awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science, spoke at the afternoon ceremony.

A total of 58 graduates received the Student Award for Academic Excellence for being at the top of their programs, both academically and in community involvement and over 150 graduating students received scholarships in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

In addition, six students were the recipients of the prestigious Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence and 10 members of the faculty and staff were similarly honored.
