UPDATED: 4-Year-Old Hurt in Bethpage Crash Dies From Injuries
The grandfather was behind the wheel when the crash occurred Monday afternoon, police said.

UPDATED Wednesday at 11:05 a.m.:
BETHPAGE, NY- The 4-year-old boy left seriously injured in a Bethpage single-car crash on Monday has succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The boy was pronounced dead by a North Shore Long Island Jewish Cohen’s Medical Center physician Tuesday at 4:50 a.m.

According to authorities, the boy’s 65-year-old grandfather was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima northbound on Stewart Avenue near Arthur Avenue when he veered off the roadway, drove onto the sidewalk and struck a tree at 1:20 p.m.
The man’s grandson was buckled into a child’s seat in the rear of the car during the time of the crash, police said.

Both the man and the boy suffered head trauma and were taken to a local hospital by Nassau County Police Ambulance and Bethpage Fire Department Ambulance.
The grandfather suffered non-life threatening injuries while the child was listed in serious condition following the crash, police said.
The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks.
Authorities are not releasing the names of those involved while the crash is still under investigation.
Police do not suspect criminality at this time.
