All Farmingdale High School Varsity Teams Achieve Scholar-Athlete Status

Farmingdale High School Wins Award of Excellence from New York State Public High School Athletic Association

Farmingdale, NY (December 21, 2016) – The Farmingdale High School Athletic Department announced that all Farmingdale High School varsity fall teams have achieved Scholar Athlete Team status from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for the 22nd consecutive season. The statewide organization also presented Farmingdale High School with its prestigious Award of Excellence for displaying exemplary sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.

“The District is proud of the athletic and academic successes of all of student-athletes—on and off the field,” said Farmingdale School District Superintendent John Lorentz. “Furthermore, we are proud of the integrity and character demonstrated by students and staff that enabled this recognition.”

The NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Program recognizes varsity teams that have a total Grade Point Average (GPA) of 90.00 or above for 75 percent of the team’s roster. In the fall of 2016, 332 students participated in varsity fall teams. The average team GPA across the 13 varsity teams was 94.67. All 20 members of the Farmingdale High School Varsity Girls’ Volleyball team maintained a GPA of 90.00 or higher.

For the past seven years the Farmingdale School District has been recognized as a School of Distinction by the NYSPHAA for its consistent dedication to athletic and academic excellence.

“Congratulations to all of the athletes, coaches, school administration members and the athletic department staff,” said Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Administration Glen Zakian. “This accomplishment is a tribute to their outstanding work. These students serve as models of the caliber of academic and athletic merit characteristic of the Farmingdale School District.”
