All Farmingdale High School Varsity Teams Achieve Scholar-Athlete Status for 23rd Consecutive Season

Farmingdale High School Wins Award of Excellence from New York State Public High School Athletic Association

Farmingdale, NY (March 23, 2017) – The Farmingdale High School Athletic Department recently announced that all Farmingdale High School varsity teams have achieved Scholar Athlete Team status from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for the 23rd consecutive season. The statewide organization also presented Farmingdale High School with its prestigious Award of Excellence for displaying exemplary sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.

“The District is proud of the caliber of academic and athletic merit demonstrated by these student-athletes on and off the field,” said Farmingdale School District Superintendent John Lorentz. “These students are emblematic of the standard of excellence characteristic of the Farmingdale School District.”

The NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Program recognizes varsity teams that have a total Grade Point Average (GPA) of 90.00 or above for 75 percent of the team’s roster. In the winter term, 257 students participated in varsity teams. The average team GPA across the 9 varsity teams was 92.66. The Girls Winter Track team had the highest average GPA at 95.98.

For more than seven years, the Farmingdale School District has been recognized as a School of Distinction by the NYSPHAA for its consistent dedication to athletic and academic excellence.

“The accomplishments of our student-athletes under the guidance of our dedicated coaching staff continues to amaze for 23 straight seasons,” said Farmingdale High School Principal Dr. Samuel Thompson. “This is an outstanding recognition. Congratulations to all on yet another successful athletic season.”
