Christmas parades — often complete with Santa Claus, festively decorated floats and marching bands — are a holiday tradition, both nationally and locally.

Several big parades are taking place this year, including the Mayor’s Annual Christmas Parade in Baltimore City, Maryland; and the Christmas Boat Parade in Newport Beach, California.

Parades in Farmingdale may not be able to match those in size, but the heart behind them is just as big. The parade to catch here at home include:

  • Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce Holiday Parade
    • When: Noon, Saturday, Nov. 19
    • Where: The parade steps off at Northside School and heads down Main Street.
    • What: The parade will feature the Farmingdale School Marching Band, Dalerettes Kickline and Hardscrabble Girl Scouts in holiday costume. Come see the parade along Main Street and visit Santa at the Village Green. Santa will be handing out candy canes and saying hello. This is an opportunity to take your holiday photo with Santa, so bring your camera.

Correction: An earlier version of this story mentioned the Target Holidazzle Parade in Minneapolis, which is not a parade but rather a collection of holiday-themed events.
