Drunk Bethpage Man Arrested After Punching Cop In Face: Police

The officer was taking the 24-year-old home after he was found intoxicated in Farmingdale, police say.

BETHPAGE, NY - A drunk Bethpage man was arrested after punching an officer in the face on Saturday night, according to Nassau Police.

Officers responded to a disturbance in Farmingdale at about 8:50 p.m .when they discovered 24-year-old Thomas Smith, who was intoxicated, police said.

They took him to his home in Bethpage in a marked RMP for his safety, police said.

Upon arrival at his home and after exiting the car, Smith struck an officer in his head with a closed fist, causing pain and a contusion, police said.

Both Smith and the officer were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for evaluation and treatment.

Smith was charged with second degree assault.

He will be arraigned on Sunday.
