E. Farmingdale Woman Seriously Hurt in Skydiving Accident

The woman was knocked unconscious and landed in a tree. The incident occurred at Skydive Long Island in Calverton Saturday afternoon.

Two people were injured Saturday afternoon when they collided in midair while skydiving at Skydive Long Island in Calverton, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, 29-year-old Kevin Arcamona, of Island Park, and 46-year-old Patricia Baronowski, of East Farmingdale, were in a free fall along with one other person when Arcamona’s knee hit Baronowski’s head, knocking her unconscious at about 12:37 p.m.

Baronowski’s reserve parachute deployed automatically and she landed in a tree, suspended 15-20 feet off the ground, police said.

Baronowski suffered a head injury and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital via a Suffolk Police helicopter. Arcamona was taken to Stony Brook via Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance to be treated for a leg injury.

Neither injury appears life-threatening, police said.

Last year, a New York City correction officer from Medford was killed and another person critically injured during a tandem jump at Skydive Long Island, which is located at the former Grumman facility at Calverton Executive Airpark.
