Farmers Market Thriving In Farmingdale

The glories of a fall harvest are on display and thriving in a municipal parking lot in Farmingdale Wednesday.

A Taste of Long Island's Farmers Market is open Wednesday until 6 p.m. with a wide assortment of products grown and processed on Long Island.

The market will operate from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and on Sundays from 11-5 through the fall. It is located in Lot 7 of the municipal parking lot, just behind the stores on Main Street.

The range of items include flowers and Long Island wines, baked goods, fresh eggs, butter, honey and goat cheese. Fall treats like nut butter and mums are on sale.

"We're very, very pleased with the response to this," said Courtney Thompson who, with her dad, Jim, brought "A Taste of Long Island" to Farmingdale's Main Street. "The enthusiasm has been overwhelming."

The farmer's market is part of the firm's overall concept. The Thompsons created a business that allowed local producers to show off their speciality products and then worked with the village to provide an outdoor venue to sell them during certain times of the year. The other aspect of the business is its professional kitchen space, which allows Long Islanders to prepare and can their products for market.

The store itself, filled with food products grown and processed on Long Island, is open daily.
