Farmingale Store Employee Falsely Collected Worker’s Compensation: Police

The man collected $11,000 in worker's compensation for an injury while he was employed by another business, police said.

A Hicksville man was arrested Tuesday morning for collecting $11,000 in worker’s compensation that he was not entitled to receive, police say.

According to authorities, Vladimir Reyes, 31, made false statements to the New York State Insurance Fund about an injury he sustained while working at Canco’s Tile, located in Farmingdale, in Feb. 2015.

An investigation revealed that Reyes was allegedly employed by another business from Aug. 2015 to May 2016 while he falsely collected $11,000 in worker’s compensation.

Reyes was located at his home at 7 a.m. and was arrested without incident. He was charged with third-degree grand larceny, third-degree insurance fraud, offering a false instrument and penalty for fraud practices.

He will be arraigned Tuesday, Sept. 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.

The investigation was conducted by New York State Insurance Fund and the Nassau County District Attorney’s Government and Consumer Frauds.
