Farmingdale Aims To Set New Guinness World Record
A pair of local businesses are organizing a fundraiser and hope Dalers can set a world record for creating the largest human shamrock.

FARMINGDALE, NY — A pair of local Farmingdale businesses are hoping to rally the community to set a new Guinness World Record for a good cause.
Dalers are invited to attempt creating the largest human shamrock at 3 p.m. March 14 at the Howitt Football Field. The event, organized by eateries The Nutty Irishman and 317 Main Street, doubles as a fundraiser on behalf of St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Anyone who wants to participate must RVSP. Children 20 and under are free, while adults 21 and over are being asked for a $10 donation. Everyone gets a free poncho, and adults get a free pint of Guinness at an after party. All proceeds go to St. Baldrick's Foundation, a not-for-profit with the goal of raising money to help find cures for children with cancer.

Other communities across the United States will attempt to set the record as well. Last year, over 1,200 people in Elmira participated, but didn't get the record because Guinness said the gaps between people in the human shamrock were too large, The Irish Post reported.

Elmira will try and set the record again this year. Guinness won't say what number other participating communities are aiming for, which means it could require more than 1,500 people to break the record, according to The Irish Post.
The Farmingdale after party will be held at American restaurant 317 Main Street, which shares an address with its namesake. Chef Eric LeVine will showcase Irish fare including bangers & mash, shepherd's pie, corned beef & cabbage, fish & chips, Guinness stew and Irish apple cake with custard sauce.
Those who can't attend the event but wish to donate can do so here.
