Farmingdale Band a Favorite Among Community

If there was an official Farmingdale band, the Electric Dudes would be it.

The band has played at almost every restaurant, bar and club in Farmingdale, including , , , , , and - just to name a few. Years ago, the Electric Dudes had the opportunity to open for Billy Preston, who has been dubbed the fifth Beatle, in what is now The Nutty Irishman.

“We love them all of these Farmingdale venues for different reasons. The Nutty Irishman has a great concert like stage, sound and lighting, Palmer's has great food, and Changing Times is filled with college students ready to rock,” said David Saul, a member of the band.

The band consists of four members: Saul on electric guitar, acoustic guitar and keyboards; Joe LaSpina on lead vocals and drums; Emmet McGeary on acoustic guitar and lead vocals and Pete Pries on bass guitar and vocals.

Three out of these four band member grew up in the neighboring towns of Plainview and Bethpage.

“As a kid, my dad worked at Republic Aviation, so we would always come to Farmingdale to see the fireworks. Farmingdale always seemed like a great place, so when I bought a home, I bought it here. That was over 20 years ago and presently, I feel like Mr. Farmingdale,” Saul said.

“We love the sense of community spirit, that as you walk down Main Street, people wave and say hello. Farmingdale was named the #1 Chamber of Commerce on Long Island, in the Long Island Press. There is every type of business and every option of fun right here in Farmingdale."

The Electric Dudes’ performance schedule involves playing every Friday and Saturday night, and two shows per month are situated in Farmingdale. Many of their concerts take place within five miles of Farmingdale.

The majority of the Electric Dudes’ fan-base consists of Farmingdale residents. They approximate that 60 percent of their fans live within five miles of the Farmingdale firehouse and they have headlined the Farmingdale Fair for 15 years at that firehouse on Main Street.

The Electric Dudes are friends with many established Farmingdale musicians such as Another Colour and John Gatto, from Long Island’s The Good Rats. Gatto resides in Farmingdale and he gave Saul guitar lessons years ago.

On Friday, Feb. 25, the Electric Dudes are playing a show at Paradox Cafe on Motor Avenue in Farmingdale, to celebrate bartender Chrissy and bar owner Richie’s birthday.

“We would like to express our gratitude and let everyone know how much all these years of support means to us in the band," Saul said.
