A fundraiser was made for the family after "everything was lost" in a flood. "This is a family that gives of themselves on a daily basis."

FARMINGDALE, NY — The family behind Vice Doughnuts & Coffee recently lost everything in their home in Friday's flood, said the mother/mother-in-law of Gina and Joe O'Brien.

The O'Brien family has a storefront in Massapequa and is planning to open one in their hometown of Farmingdale. The family has four young children, including a 4-month-old.

"They are now without clothing/hot water/heat/proper electric/washer, dryer and more," said Annemarie, their relative.

The entire lower half of O'Brien's home was under seven feet of water.

"Everything was lost," Annemarie said. "Nothing was salvageable."

The fundraiser has raised more than $3,100 of its $45,000 goal as of Monday afternoon.

The insurance company is not covering any of the loss, according to Annemarie.

Joe O'Brien is a New York City firefighter and a member of the United States Army.

"If anyone knows them at all, they know that this is a family that gives of themselves on a daily basis and gives back to their community any chance at they get," Annemarie wrote. "Now they are the ones in need of help and assistance. We are asking for donations to help them recoup just some of their necessities that were lost and to help them get back on their feet. Let me add that this is a very proud family that would never ask for help. Gina home schools her children and has always had an open door policy for anyone in need of a hot meal or just a friend. Joe is one of the hardest working men I know. He helps anyone in need of any assistance at all at the drop of a dime, even given the full plate that he has at home being the father of four children and working two jobs. I am proud to call him my son-in-law and I know this tragedy and the helplessness he is feeling at this time is so very rough for him. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. Please share this."

Vice Doughnuts & Coffee's first brick-and-mortar storefront is at 917 N. Broadway, Massapequa.

The family recently announced it is selling green and white donuts to show their "Daler pride" following the bus crash involving the Farmingdale High School marching band. Teachers Gina Pellettiere and Beatrice "Bea" Ferrari were killed in the crash. Pellettiere, 43, of Massapequa, was the school's band director, while Ferrari was a retired teacher who chaperoned band camp every year.
