Farmingdale High School recently unveiled its long-anticipated Holocaust Mural and Memorial to honor Holocaust survivors. The large, student-made mural will be used as a resource for Farmingdale High School English 10 classes during their in-depth study on the writings and literature during World War II. The mural depicts brightly painted images of six Holocaust survivors and brief biographies, as well as the phrase “May the Lessons of Yesterday Guide Our Tomorrows.”

During the event, the honored guests spoke to more than 50 Farmingdale High School students about their experiences as Jewish children living in Nazi Germany, the impact the Holocaust had on their families and community, and the importance of tolerance. The event was organized through a partnership between Farmingdale High School and the Jewish Community Relations Council in Jericho. To commemorate introduction of the Mural and Memorial, those in attendance observed a brief moment of silence to remember the victims of the Holocaust and a Farmingdale High School string quartet also gave a moving memorial performance.
