Farmingdale Students Team Up with AHRC Nassau to Create a “Spooky Spectacle”

Farmingdale High School (FHS) recently received a 20’ boat from the Nautical Mile Association in Freeport to be transformed into a “Spooky Spectacle” for the Annual Freeport Halloween Parade. In order to bring this ambitious goal to life, Mr. Michael Danon, owner of E.B. Elliots, Captain Lou Fleet and Tropix in Freeport acquired the boat and contacted Mr. Corey Sterler, Technology teacher at FHS for his assistance. Mr. Sterler then approached Ms. Lynne Brewer, a retired teacher from FHS and present employee of the AHRC for ideas for the task, and a plan was set in motion.

FHS wood shop students began cutting out pumpkins, ghosts, bats, head stones and leaves. The wooden models were then painted by the AHRC Nassau East Meadow Art Gallery. AHRC members then painted the entire boat black and orange for the festivities. Teams from Farmingdale High School and AHRC Nassau met at the Nautical Mile in Freeport and began to apply decorations to the boat.

This program is part of the Farmingdale School District’s ongoing initiative to collaborate with local community organizations and teach students the value of giving back.
