Farmingdale Transforms into Cardboard Arcade

Elementary School Students Play Interactive Arcade Games Created and Designed by Their Classmates

Farmingdale School District students at Albany Avenue Elementary School recently explored their classmates’ paper creations during the school’s Cardboard Arcade. For the past several weeks, fifth grade students have been using their Friday Genius Hours to imagine, design, engineer and create functional arcade-style games using only paper and cardboard. More than 100 students in grades 1-4 experienced the interactive exhibit by playing with the more than 30 games on display and learning about the endless possibilities that exist within the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

In addition, the fifth grade students also gave presentations to explain their games, and the younger student audience gave real-time feedback on their work.

This event is part of a Farmingdale School District ongoing initiative to help inspire students to think outside the box and develop a love of STEM.
