Father's Day

What it means to be a father.

Father’s Day…from where I sit.

Our children look to us to be a role model and a sturdy foundation when they are in trouble. But it’s not always possible to be calm and to have all the answers. That failure can cause fathers to doubt their self-worth. It’s important that as fathers we understand how vital it is to teach our children and to pass on our values, but it’s just as important to show our children how we overcome our own challenges.

As the Father of two young daughters my role is to give them the tools necessary to succeed in life. All fathers want to teach their children the path of wisdom and how to make a great life for themselves. To be a father, or a parent means teaching our children what is right and true and to also SHOW them justice, compassion and righteousness.

In our household passing on our values and showing my two daughters how their father overcomes his struggles is about placing those struggles in the Lord’s hands. As Joshua chose before the nation of Israel, I too show my daughters that it is the gift of faith that overcomes all struggles and increases all virtues.

“Choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)
