Hundreds Hit the Beach in Tribute to Marine

Hundreds of runners and walkers hit the beach Saturday to pay tribute to a hero from Garden City who was killed in Iraq in 2006.

“Why not celebrate where he liked to surf and hang out,” said Greg LiCalzi, the brother of fallen U.S. Marine 1st Lt. Michael LiCalzi and the founder of the Ace in the Hole Foundation.

The non-profit, established by LiCalzi and his family, held its third annual run/walk at Lido West Beach on May 12 to honor Michael, who was killed in Iraq on May 11, 2006 while serving in the 2nd Tank Battalion.

Lynbrook Resident Wins $1 Million on Scratchoff Ticket

Lynbrook resident Robert Corley collected a big paycheck Wednesday at New York Lottery's NYC Customer Service Center after winning on a "Wheel of Fortune" scratch-off ticket in April.

Corley had an oversized prize check worth $1 million presented to him by the lottery's own Yolanda Vega.

The 35-year-old claimed the last $1 million prize available on the "Wheel of Fortune" scratch-off game. The game has since been retired.

Five Towns Temple Backs Morrell Caterers

“We have had several frank discussions with Morrell Caterers and their advisors and we believe them when they tell us that Morrell Caterers of Lawrence is capable of meeting its contractual obligations to Temple Israel,” said James Rotenberg, the temple’s president. “The result is we are standing with Morrell Catering and its president, Scott Morrell, and we are reaffirming our faith in his ability to serve as Temple Israel's caterer.”

Art League of LI Continues 45-Year Crafts Fair

The Art League of Long Island’s Art in the Park Fine Art and Craft Fair will return to the scenic Heckscher Park in Huntington on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3.  

The event is an Art League tradition that has attracted thousands of art lovers for 45 years.

The free craft fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, rain or shine.
