Bond Failure Angers Huntington Officials

A  resolution to refinance $24 million in municipal bonds failed Tuesday, drawing sharp criticism from members of the Democratic majority toward minority party members of the board who requested more time for review.

Sponsored by , the resolution called for refinancing of bonds issued from 2002-05 at lower interest rates.

Social Media Panel Draws a Crowd

Hagedorn meeting room was nearly packed to capacity Wednesday afternoon for a panel discussion on social media, and community.

The event brought a lively discussion, almost immediately.

"I enjoyed the panel because it turned into a real conversation between the panelists and the audience, just like social media should be a real conversation between various parties," said Beth Granger, one of the panelists, who is a board member of Social Media Club of Long Island.

Through a peer-to-peer lending site, brothers/owners Dan and Dave Morris raised money from more than 100 people in early 2010 to JimmyJacks' doors. Just two years later, the pair announced that they have closed them for the last time.

The Bedford Avenue burger joint made the announcement on their Facebook page Tuesday night.

Long Beach Team Captures Science Olympiad Award

For the second consecutive year, a Long Beach High School team took home a grand prize in the International Sustainable World (Engineering, Energy and Environment) Project Olympiad (I-SWEEEP), held in Houston, Texas May 3-6.

Competing against more than 450 top projects from 40 states and 68 countries around the world, earned a gold medal in the Environmental category and went on to capture the coveted Grand Award in that category.

Portuguese Festival Coming to Mineola

Mineola is always proud of the amount of Portuguese heritage that it has within its village boundaries as well as the contributions made by residents of that background, adding a and to that of the larger community.
