Man Caught at Nassau Elementary School After Burglarizing Home: Police

The man tried to burglarize another home before being caught, police said.

BETHPAGE, NY - A Kings Park man was caught at an elementary school after burglarizing a Bethpage home and attempting to burglarize another home on Friday morning, according to Nassau Police.

Officers received a call for a suspicious person in the backyard of a South Robert Damm Street home at about 7:46 a.m.

As they responded to the area, the officers were told the person had fled the yard.

While conducting the investigation, police received more calls from a Brenner Avenue resident of a suspicious man in the home.

Officers responded to the area and found 28-year-old George Henry Diamond in the back of Central Boulevard Elementary School and placed him under arrest, police said.

A investigation found that Diamond had entered a home on Brenner Avenue, but fled when confronted by the homeowner, police said.

He was then spotted by another homeowner on Brenner Avenue trying to enter the garage through a back door before fleeing again to the school yard where he was located, police said.

Diamond is charged with second degree burglary, second degree attempted burglary and possession of burglar tools, police said.

He will be arraigned on Saturday.
