UPDATED: Police ID Man Dead In Bethpage House Fire
The man was found dead in a bedroom with a wheelchair nearby, according to the Bethpage Fire Department. The fire broke out Friday.
Updated 10 a.m. Monday: John R. Quevedo, 65, of Bethpage, was identified as the man who died in the Bethpage house fire on Friday, Nassau police said.
BETHPAGE, NY — A man is dead after a Bethpage home was engulfed by flames early Friday, officials said.
The Bethpage Fire Department arrived at a Farm Ranch Road East home around 2:10 a.m. after receiving a call for a person trapped in a burning home, the department stated on Facebook. The 1-and-a-half-story home was up in smoke and flames by the time Assistant Chief Frank DeBobes Jr. got there.

A man, approximately 65, was found in the front bedroom and pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said. A wheelchair was found nearby.
The fire was declared under control at 2:47 a.m., Bethpage Fire Department said. The home's structure was heavily damaged, and the fire is being investigated by Nassau County Fire Marshals and police.

The investigation into the fire is currently "non-suspicious," Nassau police officials said.

Chief Kevin Isernia was the incident commander. One firefighter suffered dehydration; he was treated and released to his home.
Forty-six Bethpage firefighters responded to the alarm and received help from Farmingdale, Levittown and Plainview fire departments. Standing by at Bethpage Fire Department Headquarters were Hicksville, Syosset and Levittown firefighters.
