Man Used Fake IDs to Deposit $13K Stolen Check to Account at Nassau Bank: Police

The Brooklyn man was arrested on Friday.

BETHPAGE, NY - A Brooklyn man was charged on Friday with using fake IDs to deposit a stolen check worth over $13,000 into his account in Bethpage last month, according to Nassau Police.

In August, 24-year-old Richard Brathwaite used a fake Pennsylvania driver’s license, and other fraudulent paperwork, to deposit a stolen check in the amount of $13,191.06, into his account at the Bethpage Federal Credit Union on 899 S. Oyster Bay Road, police said.

Detectives arrested Brathwaite on Friday, Oct. 14.

He is being charged with two counts of third degree grand larceny, three counts of second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, two counts of first degree falsifying business records, third degree criminal possession stolen property, and two counts of first degree identity theft, police said.
