Nassau Man Arrested After Fight Turns To Violent Threats: Police

Police say the man robbed a friend, and then went to his home and threatened to kill three other people.

A Farmingdale man was arrested on Saturday after police say he robbed and menaced a person he knew.

According to police, on July 23 at 11 p.m. Ricardo Esquerette, 25, of Cherry Street, confronted a 25-year-old man that he knew on the corner of Hudson Street and Staples Street. Police say Esquerette took the man's phone as he tried to call 911, then fled the scene on foot.

On Aug. 1, police say Esquerette went to the man's house at 2:30 a.m. and attempted to confront him once again. After being asked to leave, police say he tried to force his way into the home. A 56-year-old woman was blocking the door, police say, and when she tried to call 911, Esquerette punched, kicked and wrestled with her to get her phone and break it. After that, police say at 21-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man stepped outside to help when Esquerette pulled out a switchblade knife and threatened to kill all three. He then fled the scene on foot, police say.

Police located Esquerette on Aug. 25, they say. While officers were trying to place him under arrest, police say Esquerette started punching and kicking the officers, but didn't hurt them. After he was arrested, police say he started spitting on the officers.

Esquerette is charged with first-degree robbery, three counts of second-degree menacing, attempted burglary, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, petty larceny and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
