Nassau Police to Increase Patrols Following Munich Mall Shooting

Police will increase their presence in certain public areas to ensure the safety of residents.

Nassau County Police say they are increasing patrols in certain public areas following news of the Munich mall shooting in Germany that left at least six people dead and several others wounded.

Munich police said witnesses reported seeing three different people with guns. A video online shows an armed man shooting at people near a McDonald's, according to the New York Times. Police have not confirmed the deaths but warn residents to stay indoors as they search for the perpetrator or perpetrators.

In response to these attacks, Nassau County Police say they have intensified patrols in all shopping malls, areas of mass transit, public gatherings and near critical infrastructure. They will also monitor social media outlets to hopefully prevent threats to public safety.
