Northside Elementary Takes “Journey into America”

Farmingdale 4th graders take part in Native American Historical Reenactments

The Farmingdale School District’s Northside Elementary School and the school’s Parent Teacher Association recently brought “Journeys into America,” an interactive social studies program, to all 4th grade students.

The curriculum-based program uses hands-on methods of teaching to engage students in learning about early United States history and fosters an in-depth understanding of the first settlers in New York.

About 100 students gathered in the museum-like setting to participate in traditional games, pounding corn into flour and playing the drums. In addition, the students were able to see historical artifacts from the Eastern Woodlands and Iroquois Confederacy.
