Police: Farmingdale Man Abducted Woman at Gunpoint

The man was in possession of a black handgun and a knife, police said.

A Farmingdale man accused of abducting a woman at gunpoint on Sunday also faces weapons charges after police received a report of a man with a gun inside a Farmingdale store later that day.

Officers responded to a call of a suspicious man with a gun at Dollar Tree, located at 95 Fulton St., and found Jovan A. Banks, 25, walking west near the Dunkin’ Donuts, located at 575 Fulton St., at 6:27 p.m., police said.

Officers approached Banks and placed him into custody in the rear of McDonald’s, located at 655 Fulton St., following a brief foot chase, police said.

An investigation revealed that Banks abducted a 30-year-old woman at gunpoint at a James Street home earlier in the day, police said.

Authorities reportedly recovered a black handgun and a knife and charged Banks with three counts of third degree criminal possession of a weapon, first degree criminal use of a firearm and second degree kidnapping.

He will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
